Golden Alto

Hello
Enga Davis is an accomplished singer, actress, voice actor, and songwriter blessed with a multitude of accolades and endlessly “living” her dreams. Her journey from small town Goldsboro, NC to New York City has been one accented with pageants, radio, cruise ships, tours, Broadway, film & television. These combined opportunities afforded Enga to travel the world and work with several major recording artists: Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, James Ingram, Ryan Shaw and the late, Ben E. King to name a few.
My Story
As a child, little Enga always knew that singing & performing would be her future. There was the anticipation of Saturday afternoon’s “Soul Train,” the daily “Gospel Hour” on the radio, and marveling in the sweet, soprano voice of her great aunt as she blanketed the spirits of the congregation every Sunday morning. But it was one little object that sat on her grandmother’s end table that mesmerized her imagination & fueled her desire to sing---a souvenir ashtray displaying the landmarks of New York City. The main image that stood out was the “Comedy/Tragedy” masks with floating music notes representing Broadway. Little did she know that this little scalloped-shaped trinket held her dreams & motivated her to strive for them.
After receiving her BA in Mass Media from Hampton University, she competed in the Miss NC Scholarship Pageant holding the title as Miss Goldsboro. She made local history as the first African-American woman to wear the crown. From this competition, she was a talent winner and was offered a job “on the spot” to perform on a cruise ship. It was there on the high seas that her flair, stage presence and vocal chops were sharpened and defined. Only one thing was missing…her dream of actually taking on the “Big Apple.”
So, with a one-way Amtrak ticket, $79 and a dream…she boarded the train. Upon arrival, she landed her first European tour of the musical, “HAIR.” That eventually led to the Broadway show, “One Mo’ Time” with Broadway legends, Roz Ryan and the late BJ Crosby. Several regional theatre shows cascaded between and around these theatrical bookends including favorites: Dreamgirls, Ain’t Misbehavin’ , The Party, An Evening with Phyllis Hyman and Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical.
Enga’s film and television credits include PROUD, capturing the late Ossie Davis in his last completed work; Trulicity (National Commercial), Sisters Sketch (Comedy Central) with Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, Happy (SyFy), Live with Kelly & Michael, The Tonight Show and The Chris Rock Show. Her one-woman impersonations show, “Simply Enga,” pays homage to music legends from Diana Ross to Tina Turner.
Grateful to God always for opening doors and His endless opportunities…and for grandma Maggie’s cute, little souvenir NYC ashtray that subliminally whispered: “If you can make it here…you can make it ANYWHERE!” Humbly & fiercely…I MADE IT !!
Enga currently resides in New York City, and is a proud member of Actors Equity Association & SAG-AFTRA respectively.
